Instead of releasing Christmas song covers, or attempt to have an original take on Santa Clause in some way, Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and their long time producer Greg Kurstin are doing something different called ‘Hanukkah Sessions’.

For every night of Hanukkah, Kurstin and Grohl will release a new song cover by a different Jewish artist. So 8 songs in total are what will be shared by Hanukkah’s end, but what they’ve done so far is fantastic. They started off strong with Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’. Grohl goes all out with his best impression of the band while singing too.

Night two saw a rock spin on the pop hit by Drake – ‘Hotline Bling’. Grohl on drums for this song changes it into something entirely new and is absolutely worth the listen.

That was followed by a thumping and roaring rendition of ‘Mississippi Queen’ on night three, originally by MOUNTAIN. At this point, you can’t help but be amazed by how much these two men can accomplish with just drums and electric keyboards….and a cup.

The fourth night of ‘Hanukkah Sessions’ saw it’s first guest appearance and female artist, Peaches, with her song ‘F**K The Pain Away’.

Then the boys take a left turn and get folksy-bluesy with Bob Dylan’s ‘Rainy Woman #12 & 35′ for night five. Kurstin even leaving the electric keyboards behind and getting on the the ol’ ivory.

With three more nights to go, anything is possible it seems. Here’s looking forward to seeing how Grohl and Kurstin wrap up their ‘Hanukkah Sessions’.
