The 2021 Grammys were full of surprises, both good and bad, which is truly the summation of a tumultuous year in the music industry all together. What was refreshing though was for what felt like the first time in Grammy history, stripped down performances and a lack of filler skits allowed for the focus of the evening to truly stay on the music.

However that didn’t stop fans of the late great Eddie Van Halen from pointing out a glaring miscalculation that the recording academy made. The Grammys didn’t factor in that a musician as innovative and influential as Eddie Van Halen deserved more of a stand out “In Memoriam” moment than the one he got.

Fans of EVH were especially spurned after Lionel Ritchie performed a full song tribute to the late Kenny Rogers, while Eddie got a 15-20 second clip of himself playing his signature Frankenstrat while it sat in a lonely spotlight on stage. Watch the ‘In Memoriam’ moment at the Grammys below and decide whether or not more should have been done for the groundbreaking guitarist and musician, Eddie Van Halen.
