Expert Debbie Bere recommends talking to kids about the birds and the bees just before age eight. Because eight-year-olds are often embarrassed by discussing body parts, Bere suggests talking about bodies early on and never giving private parts nicknames.
Bere also insists on talking about consent. “If they are old enough to ask a question, they are old enough to hear the answer,” Bere says. Common questions can include: “Why do people like it?” and “Would I die from sex?”
According to a study from Rutgers University, only half of U.S. teens are getting sufficient sex education. (Study Finds)
